Dear Friend of the Southwest Council,
As the year draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the waters fished, the friendships forged, the laughter shared between casts, and the passion that binds our community—the joy and art of fly fishing.
At the Southwest Council, we see fly fishing as a way to connect with nature, others, and something greater than ourselves. We are a community that works together to support youth and breast cancer survivors, conserve rivers, support each other, and share the joy of our beloved sport.

Because of You
This year, your support has helped us with habitat restoration projects across the Southwest, aiding in the preservation and recovery of native fish populations, including our beloved golden trout and southern steelhead. It has also enabled us to conduct workshops and casting clinics, such as our popular Casting Instructor Study Group, support youth programs like Trout in the Classroom, and strengthen clubs across California and Nevada by providing resources and assistance.

It Takes A Village
Our volunteers and dedicated Board of Directors dedicate hours each month to planning and executing events and programs like the FlyBuy, Club Management Day, Riptide Rendezvous, Bishop Trout Rodeo, casting instruction, and fly-tying demonstrations. It’s because of people like you that our mission continues to thrive.

Conservation The Southwest Council is active in Conservation projects throughout our region of Southern California and Southwest Nevada. As a unified voice for Southern California and Nevada, the SWC can influence important conservation issues such as the Delta Water Conveyance Project, Klamath River dam removals, the Hot Creek mining proposal, aquatic invasive species, and the removal of our own local Rindge Dam and Matilija Dam.

Trout in the Classroom (TIC) The Southwest Council believes that it is important to share our passion for conservation and fly fishing with the future stewards of our rivers and lands, the youth.
We support Trout in the Classroom (TIC) with aquariums in hundreds of classrooms in grades K-12. The Southwest Council supports schools from San Diego to San Luis Obispo and inland to Mammoth Lakes. Our clubs work hand in hand with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. As partners, volunteers to teachers and schools, both public and private, and provide lessons on conservation, entomology, and watersheds to local youth. The goal is to reconnect an increasingly urbanized youth to the system of streams, rivers, and watersheds that sustain them.
